Amazon’s newly released shopping data shows Americans are embracing a more social 2021

Amazon’s latest year-over-year shopping data provides a snapshot of what Americans are doing now compared to last year. The data reflects a stark shift. In 2020, customers pounced on puzzles, garden tools, cookware, headphones, exercise bikes, and other products to help them stay healthy and entertained at home.

Party decorations are now best sellers on Amazon. Purchases of dresses and tuxedos have tripled in the last year. Luggage sales are up a whopping 460%. And perhaps most telling that Americans are ready to leave home and socialize this summer: Teeth-whitening toothpaste sales are climbing.

This is a great article from which to glean some great product ideas to sell on Amazon.

How to Get Your Product on The Amazon Internet Famous Page

I have written about Amazon's Internet Famous page before. Now we can see what some products did to get there.

The products in Amazon’s Internet Famous store all went viral for different reasons. Some are trending fashion statements; others have a particularly snappy name. But they all have one thing in common: a promotional strategy so native and fine-tuned to social media, that people couldn’t resist sharing and buying. Here are three prominent brands from Amazon’s ‘Internet Famous’ store that showcase the core components of a viral campaign.

Below is a link to see what it took for three specific products landed there.

How To Win The Amazon Buy Box In 2021 [Eligibility And Algorithm Explained]

I know I share a lot of "how to win the Buy Box" articles. But it is the one thing you have to have in order to be successful on Amazon. Below is a snippet from another great article, which is actually going to be a series about this topic.
It comes courtesy of SellerEngine, a research, repricing, and shipping software for Amazon Sellers.

Before you can even think about winning it, you should first make sure you qualify for it.

Amazon Buy Box eligibility isn’t something you enable in your Seller Central account.

You must earn it.

You’re only eligible if and when Amazon says you are, and that’s mostly a matter of metrics and the algorithm run behind them.

Amazon expands A-to-z Guarantee to efficiently resolve defective product claims for customers and sellers

Previously, in the rare case that a customer believed a defective product caused property damage or personal injury, customers approached sellers directly to try to resolve their claim.

Beginning September 1, 2021, for products sold through Amazon.com, Amazon will facilitate the resolution of property damage and personal injury claims between the customer, the seller, and their insurance provider. Customers can contact Amazon Customer Service and they will notify the seller and help them address the claim. If a seller does not respond to a claim, Amazon will step in to directly address the immediate customer concern, bear the cost, and separately pursue the seller. If a seller rejects a claim Amazon believes is valid, Amazon may also step in to address the customer's concern; in these cases, sellers will continue to have the opportunity to defend their product against the claim. This streamlined process will save time, money, and effort for both customers and sellers. By standing behind customers and the products in their store, regardless of who sells them, Amazon will help customers feel more confident shopping at Amazon and from sellers like you.

Amazon pays for claims under $1,000, saving sellers time and money
Amazon will resolve and pay for valid property damage and personal injury claims against sellers under $1,000 as a concession to customers. Claims under $1,000 account for more than 80% of cases in our store, and Amazon will bear these costs and not seek reimbursement from sellers who abide by our policies and hold valid insurance. These concessions will not affect your order defect rate, and you will be kept informed at every step so you can continue to ensure your products are safe.

Amazon updates seller insurance requirements and launches Insurance Accelerator, making it easier and more affordable for sellers to protect their businesses
Amazon has a long-standing requirement that sellers obtain product liability insurance and name Amazon as an additional insured once they reach $10,000 in sales for three consecutive months on Amazon. We are updating this requirement and effective September 1, 2021, our Business Solutions Agreement will require sellers to obtain product liability insurance and name Amazon as an additional insured once you reach $10,000 in sales in one month on Amazon.com.

Amazon's growing logistics network as it puts inventory closer to consumer

Amazon is spending more than any of its competitors to build out its infrastructure. With Walmart and Target as close as 60 minutes to most consumers, Amazon is working hard to get the storage and delivery systems in place for one-day delivery.

Below is a link to an article that shows just how serious they are about this.

Advertising On the Amazon DSP Platform

The Amazon DSP (Demand Side Platform) allows advertisers to programmatically buy display, video, and audio ads both on and off Amazon.

James Thomson, Chief Strategy Officer at Buy Box Experts describes The Amazon DSP as: “There's no other form of advertising that allows you to do this level of targeting, to go after shoppers who have already declared they are in the market to buy these very products.”

Wednesday, August 18th, 3:30 pm EST

Sidenote:
When you consider that DSP is even more targeted than Facebook ads this is worth a look. Amazon knows exactly what a customer is looking at or is used to buying. Wouldn't you want your ads shown to those people?

Make 2-day delivery a competitive advantage everywhere you sell

Were you negatively affected by recent FBA storage decreases and can't keep enough stock at Amazon?

Or perhaps you are an FBM Prime seller who isn't jazzed about having to ship on Saturdays to provide 2-day delivery.

Deliverr is an FBA alternative that has no storage restrictions and is trusted by thousands of sellers across Amazon, Walmart, Shopify, and other sales channels. It takes 2 minutes to sign up, and you can start fulfilling your orders in as little as 10 days. Their pricing is fully transparent (check out their cost-calculator tool), and they have no contracts, minimums, or hidden fees.

Changes to Professional Selling Plan subscription fees for global sellers

This per Amazon:
On August 1, 2021, we will be making some changes to the way Professional Selling Plan subscription fees are billed if you have active listings in more than one country or region with merged accounts.

We will update the Selling on Amazon Fee schedule to reflect that if you have merged global accounts, your subscription fee will be divided across these accounts, and will be charged in the currency of each Amazon store. You will be charged subscription fees only where you have active listings during the current month.

Regardless of the number of Amazon stores you sell through, your total subscription fees will still be limited to no more than the equivalent of USD 39.99 per month (exclusive of tax, except in Mexico and Brazil, and any foreign transaction fees charged by your bank or credit issuer). However, you may see these fees billed to your accounts in a different way.

Specifically:
  • All subscription fees will be billed on the same day of the month rather than on the monthly anniversary of your registration in each country or region. To align your billing day, we will make a one-time extension of your subscriptions, if necessary, at no additional charge.
  • Subscription fees for your Americas-region accounts (United States, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil) will be billed in each country in which you have active listings on your billing day rather than being billed in just one country. The total amount billed will not increase as a result. If you sell in our European stores, you will continue to be charged a subscription fee in just one European country.

Tidbits:

  • Amazon has opened a $1.5 billion hub for its air cargo operations in Northern Kentucky. It's the latest example of Amazon investing heavily to own more parts of its logistics network.
  • The Strategic Organizing Center, a coalition of four labor unions including the Communication Workers of America, has sent a letter to the FTC urging it to halt Amazon's proposed takeover of MGM.

There is an advanced variation viewer to compare rank, prices, and reviews of the different sizes and colors of a product. Then there is an inventory stock checker to see how many units that all sellers on the listing have. You will also be able to check ASINs in bulk from a list. You can analyze up to 5 ASINs at a time with your AZInsight subscription.
