Goodbye ASIN Level Quantity Limits, Hello Storage Type Level Restock Limits
Amazon set stock limits for new products to 200 last fall. That seemed to do more harm than good, even causing sellers to delay launching new products.
And so now Amazon has changed its mind, but the new rules can cause huge, expensive problems for those sellers who sell a lot. Here was their announcement:
“Effective April 22, 2021, FBA products will no longer be subject to ASIN-level quantity limits. Instead, restock limits will be set at the storage-type level, offering you more flexibility in managing your shipments.”
Sounds good, right? It might be okay for some sellers, but for high-volume sellers, not so much. This inventory capacity also includes your inbound shipments. The sellers out there who do big numbers, will all of a sudden be completely cut off from launching new products at all!
The problem is there is a different limit for each seller, based on numerous factors. And to make matters worse, knowing what your limits are can be hard to find.
NOTE: I think it is a bit rude to announce this the same day it goes into effect, during a pandemic, and while sellers are trying to plan for Prime Day.

Amazon Posts $108.5 Billion In Sales, Smashing Expectations In Best First Quarter Ever
Seattle-based Amazon reported revenue of $108.5 billion in the first quarter, surging 44% year over year and beating out analyst expectations of $104.5 billion.
Boosted by stimulus checks and improving sales of Amazon Web Services (AWS), net income hit $15.79 per share, or roughly $8.1 billion—eclipsing expectations of $9.54 per share and more than tripling from $2.5 billion one year ago.

Amazon Testing New Customer Email Feature
More big news this week comes with Amazon's announcement of a new email tool that will allow brands to email customers with news of new products and promotions.
The feature has rolled out to a select few sellers and will only be available to brand-registered entities once the full roll-out begins.
Hopefully, Amazon will take responsibility for creating awareness, incentivizing adoption, and creating a smooth user journey.

eBay and Walmart Prohibit Use of Amazon Logistics
In a post on Thursday, Amazon announced:
“We are adding the option to block orders from being shipped by Amazon Logistics, for a 5% surcharge. Because sales channels like eBay and Walmart prohibit the use of Amazon Logistics, you will be able to block this shipping method at the account level within your FBA settings or for individual orders.”
Another piece of intel from Amazon:
"We will implement moderate increases in fulfillment fees (about 3% on average) to reflect changing fulfillment, transportation, and storage costs. This increase is in line with the industry average increases for fulfillment services."
And another hopeful little nugget of info:
"You can now sign up to be put on the waitlist for the beta test of the unbranded packaging and international shipping features."
NOTE: While eBay and Walmart prohibiting the use of Amazon Logistics is old news, it seems like everyone does it anyway.

Introducing Amazon Salon
Okay, I know that this is in London, but it is so out-of-the-box even for Amazon, I had to share it.
At Amazon Salon, customers will be able to experiment with different virtual hair colors using augmented reality technology, enjoy entertainment on Fire tablets at each styling station and capture their new look in a dedicated creative area.
Showcasing a selection of bestselling professional hair care products, the salon will also test new point-and-learn technology, where customers can simply point at the product they are interested in on a display shelf and the relevant information, including brand videos and educational content, will appear on a display screen. To order the products, customers can scan the relevant QR code on the shelf to visit the product detail page on Amazon.co.uk and purchase, with delivery direct to their home.
Amazon Salon will initially be open to Amazon employees only before it opens to bookings for the general public in the coming weeks. This will be an experiential venue where they showcase new products and technology, and there are no current plans to open any other Amazon Salon locations.

Amazon vs. Shopify: Keep an Eye on the Battle
There’s a behind-the-scenes battle going on between the two biggest eCommerce platforms in the U.S. that could have big implications for merchants. After much media speculation at the end of 2020 about whether Amazon would launch a service to go head-to-head with Shopify—or perhaps acquire Shopify outright—Amazon bought an Australian company that could help it compete directly.
