Amazon Warns Sellers to Shape Up About Shipments

Amazon warned sellers enrolled in its FBA program not to send canceled or deleted shipments to its fulfillment centers. Not only might it reject such shipments, but it warned, “Your ability to send us additional shipments may also be suspended.”

The new Amazon FBA policy will take effect on April 1, 2022.

A difficult quarter for third-party sellers spells headwinds for Amazon’s retail marketplace

Third-party sellers on Amazon had a tough fourth quarter as global supply chain issues and labor shortages in manufacturing and distribution were magnified by the spread of the Omicron variant.

Growth within Amazon’s third-party marketplace has been on a downward trajectory since the spring, with the lifting of lockdown restrictions spurring shoppers to return to brick and mortar stores. At the same time, Amazon has spent more on fulfillment to meet demand amid the pandemic, while also placing restrictions on the amount of stock sellers can send into its warehouses for storage and shipping.

Amazon Marketplace Fair Pricing Policy

Straight from Amazon:

Sellers are responsible for setting their own prices on Amazon marketplaces. In our mission to be Earth's most customer-centric company, Amazon strives to provide our customers with the largest selection at the lowest price, and with the fastest delivery as sellers play an important role.
Amazon regularly monitors the prices of items on our marketplaces, including shipping costs, and compares them with other prices available to our customers. If we see pricing practices on a marketplace offer that harms customer trust, Amazon can remove the Buy Box, remove the offer, suspend the ship option, or, in serious or repeated cases, suspend or terminate selling privileges.

Pricing practices that harm customer trust include, but are not limited to:

  • Setting a reference price on a product or service that misleads customers;
  • Setting a price on a product or service that is significantly higher than recent prices offered on or off Amazon.
  • Selling multiple units of a product for more per unit than that of a single unit of the same product.
  • Setting a shipping fee on a product that is excessive. Amazon considers current public carrier rates, reasonable handling charges, as well as buyer perception when determining whether a shipping price violated our fair pricing policy.

Free BSR Chart

The Amazon Category Best Sales Rank Chart might not be as pertinent as it was in years past, but it still provides value and is worth a look.

Every product is assigned a BSR by Amazon that changes by minute, hour, or day. This rank is indicative of how well an item is selling in its category. A rank of 1 would be the best product in that category. The higher the BSR, the fewer the sales of that product. As with most things with Amazon, it is complicated.

The BSR Chart lists the rankings per category. so let's say you are sourcing books and you find one with a BSR of 3 million. You might think you should pass, but in Books, a rank of 3.5 million is in the top 5%. Home and Kitchen is another category where a rank of 4 million is in the top 5%.

Year End Reports For Your Accoutant

Here is some helpful advice from Chris Grant at Cleartheshelf.com:

1. Log in to Seller Central, hover over REPORTS, and click on PAYMENTS.
2. Click on the DATE RANGE REPORTS tab.
3. Click the GENERATE REPORT button.
4. Select the SUMMARY option.
5. Choose the account type you want to include.
6. Select the CUSTOM date range option and enter from 01/01/2021 of the year to 12/31/2021.
7. Click GENERATE.


  • Credible sources sources have pegged 6:00 PM eastern as the best time to call Amazon Support and get a knowledgeable US rep.
  • Some sellers have reported wild inaccurate swings in their FBA inventory limits (mainly going down for no obvious reason.
